Under its On-Call Agreement with NYC Transit, MFS (formerly GEOD) was requested to perform survey services at the West 4th Station, located in Manhattan, and Sutphin Station, located in Queens. The services were to include establishing survey control and performing a survey of escalators located at each site.
To establish the survey control, MFS (formerly GEOD) performed a combination of static GPS observations, traversing and differential leveling per the MTA 2SR requirements. In addition to incorporating MTA provided control into the traverse baseline. The escalator surveys utilized a combination of conventional surveying and 3D Terrestrial Laser Scanning to establish the escalator features which were required for the survey. A topographic survey was performed at the landings of each of the escalators extending 25’ from the escalator touchdown points.
Plans were prepared for each of the four escalators in both hard copy and digital formats in Microstation V8 in accordance with NYCTA standards. Project control reports were prepared for each site.
